Families visiting Windsor Castle this half term can explore the links between the Castle and William Shakespeare, whose works have been collected by the Royal Family through the centuries. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of the first collection of Shakespeare’s poems and plays, a copy of which is held within the Royal Library at Windsor. Many kings and queens, including those who reigned during Shakespeare’s lifetime, enjoyed performances of his plays at the Castle and Windsor is even the setting for one of his plays, The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Every day during half term, children can enjoy creative craft activities at the Castle's Learning Centre where they can create a Shakespearian memento such as a ruff and their own quill. They can even try on replica costumes and dress up as historical figures such as Elizabeth I. While touring the magnificent State Apartments, families can also follow the family trail to learn more about Shakespeare's links to the Castle, as well as enjoying the free family multimedia tour.
